 Chloe's Garden Room-US Period 1821-present and 7th flag
Chloe Merrick, born in New York was eager to help educate the many freedmen liberated by the Civil War. She arrived on Amelia and opened a school in the Episcopal Church. Harrison Reed was so impressed with her school that he helped her purchase General Finegan's abandoned home for an orphanage. Reed became Governor of Florida and married Chloe in August of 1869.
