Blooming Jungle at Williams House

This year has been unusually warm from winter onward and as a result we are nearly tropical in nature this year and plants are loving it.  We have always had elephant ear plants in the Williams House gardens, but this year they have grown to over six feet tall and the leaves are almost three feet long.  They have also been blooming with about four or five blossoms on each plant.  We had a six foot  lily in the spring and it’s as though all the plants are on steroids this year.  It’s also been a wetter than normal summer with two early tropical systems bringing week long rains and more recently fairly regular afternoon showers.  Locals who have lived here 20+ years say it is how Florida was historically and that recent years have been the exception.  At any rate below is a sample of our large elephant ears this year.
